This is the first piece I designed and sttiched at the Royal School of needlework. I did an instensive course - around a hundred hours of stitching over a two week period. Jacobean or crewel work is a traditional form of embroidery which introduces a lot of different surface stitches. Jacobean embroidery is traditionally worked using wools on linen twill.
The design includes a tree of life motif and had to include a bird or animal, I chose a peacock as I love the colours. We were limited to one colourway plus a nother colour to add accents. We had to balance the colours across the piece of work, which I really enjoyed doing.
